- Prime Mover | ChasingBlues
PRIME MOVER ABOUT Prime Movers (PMs) are a versatile classification of transport vehicles fitted with a hooklift system, allowing them to transport various specialist modules and containerized units. These vehicles respond to incidents by utilising a hooklift arm to load the required module at the station, and demount it where required on scene. This system allows stations to have a wide set of capabilities without using up too much space with multiple dedicated vehicles. Some Prime Mover utilise a different system in which the modules are propped up via struts and lowered onto the Prime Mover for transportation, however, this was generally only utilised by Tayside Fire and Rescue Service (TFRS) and isn't usually found outwith the region. The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) operates a large variety of Prime Mover, many of which were provided under the national resilience framework by the Scottish Government. Crews require specialist driver training into the mounting and demounting of modules. Specification Vehicle Generally based upon a high-horsepower vehicle to effectively transport heavy modules. Hooklift Capable of lifting and transporting various modular units, with hydraulic stabilizing mechanisms to secure transported units.
