- Bulk Foam Unit | ChasingBlues
BULK FOAM Unit ABOUT Bulk Foam Units (BFUs) are specialist firefighting modules designed to provide additional foam-making equipment and bulk foam storage for tackling large flammable liquid fires and chemical spills. These pods are transported via prime movers and deployed to incidents where foam is the required firefighting medium. Each BFU carries large quantities of Aqua Film Forming Foam (AFFF) and High Expansion Foam (HIEX). The units also include foam induction equipment and generators for high-expansion foam application. The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) operates three BFUs, these modules are typically ‘jump-crewed’ by personnel from the station’s first-out pump. Two firefighters crew the prime mover transporting the pod, while the remaining crew proceed on the pump as support. Specification Foam Storage & Delivery A variety of foams such as AFF and HIEX, foam branches & inductors to mix and apply foam at required flow rates, high-expansion foam generator and fittings. Additional Equipment Spill containment tools for managing hazardous liquid incidents, foam proportioning equipment to ensure accurate mixing of foam concentrate with water.
- Water Rescue Unit | ChasingBlues
Water Rescue Unit ABOUT Water Rescue Units (WRUs) provide specialist capabilities to incidents involving inland and coastal water environments. The units are based upon a 4x4 van and trailered Rigid Inflatable Boat (RIB) to enable effective water rescues. WRU are the level 3 water rescue resource within Scotland and carry a variety of rescue equipment to enable sufficient responses. WRU crews are trained to a Level 3 water rescue standard, meaning they can utilise a variety of means to perform rescues in water, such as swimming. Teams can also enter the likes of fast-moving water which lower level teams cannot. While the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) has no legislative responsibility to respond, it operates 20 stations equipped with Swift Water Rescue (SWR) resources. WRU are crewed by Swift Water Technicians and Rescue Boat Operators (SRT Team) in a dual-crew model. Generally, rescues require two WRU to respond. Specification Rigid Inflatable Boat (RIB) Powered rescue boat which allows rescuers to reach casualties quickly and effectively. Water Rescue Equipment Additional equipment such as throw lines and paddles allow for flexibility in rescues. Rear Welfare Area Rear area allows crews to equip water rescue gear while enroute to an incident as opposed to wasting time on scene.
