BULK
FOAM
Unit

ABOUT
Bulk Foam Units (BFUs) are specialist firefighting modules designed to provide additional foam-making equipment and bulk foam storage for tackling large flammable liquid fires and chemical spills. These pods are transported via prime movers and deployed to incidents where foam is the required firefighting medium.
Each BFU carries large quantities of Aqua Film Forming Foam (AFFF) and High Expansion Foam (HIEX). The units also include foam induction equipment and generators for high-expansion foam application.
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) operates three BFUs, these modules are typically ‘jump-crewed’ by personnel from the station’s first-out pump. Two firefighters crew the prime mover transporting the pod, while the remaining crew proceed on the pump as support.
