W906UDP

Water Ladder

DESCRIPTION

W906 UDP is a former Grampian Fire and Rescue Service water ladder, built by EmergencyOne on a Dennis Sabre XL chassis. Designed for versatility, the appliance is equipped to handle a wide range of incidents, including fires, road traffic collisions, and rescues.

This appliance particularly unique in that it is one of only three "10-man" pumps ever purchased by Grampian Fire Brigade, designed to accommodate a larger crew than standard pumps. This allows the vehicle to respond solo to incidents that would typically require two pumps. Out of these pumps, this appliance was the only Dennis, and remains the only operational Dennis in the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.

Stationed at Ballater Fire Station, the appliance operates on a retained-duty basis. The extra capacity on board includes additional firefighting equipment and a second officer in charge (OIC), ensuring that the vehicle can handle complex incidents independently. Given Ballater's Fire Station’s Level 2 water rescue capabilities, W906 UDP is also equipped with extra equipment for water rescues and flooding incidents.

History

(901) 2000: The appliance is allocated to Ballater Fire Station as part of a new trial by Grampian Fire Brigade into 10-man pumps.

(R38P6) 2016: Following the 2013 amalgamation of all eight Scottish fire and rescue services the appliance callsign is updated to a national standard.
