ABOUT
Fire Investigation Units (FIUs) are a type of specialized vehicle utilised to support the investigation of fires by determining their origin, cause, and development. FIU carry essential equipment for evidence collection, forensic analysis, and secure storage, allowing Fire Investigation Officers (FIO) to conduct on-site examinations.
In the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS), CSUs may be mobilised to incidents where the cause of the fire cannot be readily determined, is suspected to be deliberate or is fatal. Across Scotland, there are three Fire Investigation Teams, there is one team per Service Delivery Area (SDA).
FIUs are crewed by trained Fire Investigation Officers who attend incidents on a request basis. Mobilisation is coordinated through an on-call rota system,
